vanishing mesh

On my photos page, there is a shot of a kestrel, which was taken with the camera at about 3m from the mesh and the bird some 1.5m behind it. When I cropped and enlarged the 2" square thick, green wire mesh has (thankfully) disappeared.

The lens was a Canon 70 - 300mm at about 290mm zoom.

I am pleased that the mesh does not show, but would like to know how and why.

it's basically gone so far out of focus as not to be relevant but what does happen is it softens part of the image
there still there and will be obscuring something but if it's not noticeable i wouldn't be too bothered

thanks

Thanks for that. The image is certainly 'softer' than I would have expected.
