Canon 5D mark i???

Hi, I'm looking to upgrade from a 450D to ??. I'd love to buy a Canon 5D mk II but budget is an issue!!!

I've just landed my first wedding shoot and wanted to go for a professional camera!. Would I be better off getting a 5D mark1 to get me on the full size sensor pro camera level or going for something newer like 7D or 60D? Could be looking at secong hand for the 7D too!!!

want to keep my 450D as spare!

thanks for any suggestions

Michelle

it all depends on what you want out of the camera the 5d mk1 is a very capable camera with fantastic detail and low noise handling at high iso
then again so is the 7d

the question is do you want full frame ? and what lenses have you already got
keep in mind any EFS lenses you might own will not be compatible with the 5d because of the full frame sensor
that would leave the sensible choice to be the 7d but if your starting from scratch or have no EFS lenses then the 5d is an excellent camera for not a lot of money

Lenses are the biggest question. No EF-S lenses will work on the 5D.

Thanks for comments.

I do have 3 lenses which will work on full frame from the good old days of film!! I have 1 that is an EF-S, which i'd keep to my 450D!

The reason for the budget for the body is i'm planning to splash out on the 24-70 f2.8 L lens to go with it, thus i'd need a limit somewhere!!

I'd like to wait for the 5D mark III? to launch, then there would hopefully be a good price drop on the mark II!

I would like full frame if I can get it!

the 5d mk3 is a bunch of rumors at the moment and it might be another year before launch and soon after there will be rumors of a mk 4
i would concentrate on whats available today
the 5 dmk1 makes a great portrait / landscape camera and does a fair attempt at everything else
the 7d makes a great sports / wildlife camera and is no slouch when it comes to portrait / landscapes
the 5d offers a wider angle of view and if thats important thats the camera to choose
the 7d offers the latest technology with better focusing abilities and faster frame rates but the same angle of view you already have with the 450d
the 7d also does video if thats important

i think the choice boils down to what the camera is going to be used for the most

the 7d, 60d, 600d and 550d all have the same sensor so if you put a descent lens on any of them you will get the same results which should be very good. the 5d is full frame and is very good but whether any one will notice the difference will be hard to say. I dont know what other gear you have but i would look at a good external flash an essential with weddings. also make plans for bad weather.
