Lightroom

As a long term subscriber, how about covering Lightroom in the mag? There seems be lots of repetetive material on how to use Elements, but very little coverage of Lightroom, particularly on the "Teach yourself" disks.

Lightroom would be great, I use it myself. However statistics come into play here and there are fewer people using LR than there are the other two versions. By far most people are using Elements.

It would be nice to see some tutorials now and then on Lightroom though.

This would be really nice to see some tips on using the Lightroom. There is more and more people who started using Lightroom, and more professionals recommends this program.

I am also using Lightroom, so it would be great to learn some new tricks
Or even get some presets on the cd

I use Lightroom as well. I like it so much better than PS. I was using Elements before and wanted more RAW capabilities but CS was too expensive. Adobe sent me an email with a special offer for LR at $100 off.

I have Perfect Layers from One On One Software (again a special deal when I got it), so I can do layers.

I have Scott Kelby's book on Lightroom 3 and it is great for getting things done. It is a "You have a photo like this, then do these things" sort of book.

I am not sure there are that many using LR that subscribe or read the magazines. It would be nice to hear, partially out of curiosity the order of products used. We know Elements is #1, but what are the top 5?

I use Lightroomand do the majority of editing there. But then I take my favorite handful of pics ones that need some fixing, and I use photoshop on them.
what i noticed isthat when i shot raw - images are a stop darker that the ons a vie in canon software ( i had a look on the internet nd looks im not the only one having this problem)

I have been using the trial of lightroom for the last few weeks and love it so much so I have ordered a copy this morning, amazon have it for £95 I guess because Lightroom 4 is in beta at the moment.

It has great control over RAW and some really nice post processing effects as well, it was a bit daunting at first as there is so much that can be adjusted but once you get your head around it I found it more intuitive to bring out the detail etc than PS or elements.

I agree, I like Lightroom a lot. I have Elements still, but I never need to use it anymore.

You could also say that far more people use Paint Shop Pro than use Lightroom and that never gets a look in either.

Hi Ive been looking at Lightroom for some time (at the mo i use adobe bridge and cs) wondering if some one could help me. I might be thick here and missing something but from what i under stand is that Light room is non destructive which from what ive read and can understand adds a file to the picture with the added details of the work done , so when you veiw it in light room it is the edited version ,
If I want to publish it to a website, flickr, here or my own I have to export it to save the edited version, and the same if i want to send my pictures to print shop is this correct ? or am i missing something

Think of the Lightroom editor (Develop Module) as ACR on steroids. Lightroom edits RAW files by storing the edits in the sidecar XMP files (a separate file) and does not add anything to the actual RAW file, with the exception of Adobe's own DNG format. This also allows you to view the history of edits and roll back any you want, or all, easily.

For exports, it is easy. Since you mention Flickr, there is a built in exporter. You can fill in all the details for the photo (title, description, etc) before uploading. You can create new photosets in LR and upload them to Flickr. It is great for managing photos on Flickr. It will also download comments on your photos from Flickr (though I think you need a Flickr Pro account for that).

You can set up any external editor and select what format you want to edit in (jpg, TIFF, etc).
