Sorry for being so late with my ups and downs. First and foremost, congratulations to Deena it was in my top four but I voted for Mathew's 'The Greenhouse'. Loved this as soon as i saw it. Very clever taking the shot from the inside, the ivy, condensation and the tree through the open door and the quirky angle all went to make a very atmospheric image.
Others I liked were TwinnieE's "Late night shopping", so evocative, an idealised image of Christmas shopping. You are very lucky living where you do
[Oxford street is more of a nightmare scenario!]. The other contender was 'Steamy train window' which was my up, so see below!
Up
Pea24 - 'Steamy train window'. Great idea! Like the condensation but the one girl who was pulling a face made it feel too 'set up' somehow. I think I would have enjoyed it more if they had looked startled, as if you had just rapped on the window. It really suited the B&W conversion and I love the expression of the man on the opposite platform who is obviously trying to work out what is going on.
Down
SieSmith - 'Doorway to Wapakoneta history'. It certainly fitted the brief but I found myself wishing you could have got a little closer so that the entrance dominated the frame more.
As for my own entry

I struggled with this theme but wanted to put an entry in so I can honestly say very little thought went into it. Hubby and I were out with the dog walking along the Cray Estuary when I spotted the excavator [?] so took a snap of it. I had my camera with me as I am trying to teach myself how to photograph birds in flight

My other option was a photograph of my dog through the car window, not very exciting!
Pea24 Thank you for the feedback and I would be very happy to see what you would have done with my image! You are right about changing the angle. I should have gone down the bank to get closer as well. I only took the one photo and am embarrassed to say I put no thought into it at all
