Goodwood 2011 (Newbie)

Hi guys
I'm relatively new to photography, inspired after a trip to Iceland last year with some stunning sights and scenery in unbelievably good lighting - it certainly opened my eyes to the beauty of nature!

I'm also hugely keen on bikes and cars and was lucky enough to be invited to Goodwood Revival this year. 400 shots to deliver a handful seems to be my technique, probably down to still trying to fathom best settings for shots!

I would really appreciate if you guys could provide some feedback on a handful of these shots in my album. Any and all criticism is welcome.
Thanks in advance
Rob

Hi Rob and welcome

Had a look at your gallery and you have some very nice and some very interesting shots , great angles , close up's and great use of depth of field .

If you can pick just a few of your favorite one's and post them directly into your thread you will have more luck in getting a response from the other members because it takes so long to view everyone's photo gallery and it also shows us what you consider your best work .

Can't wait to see more of your work .

I did try to tell you , 257 viewings to date and no comments but then again if you don't respond to your own thread how can you expect others to do so .

It's a real pity because you have some great shots there .

It's true about the gallery section here..... so slow! Making comments on the pictures is also time consuming.... anybody with dial-up internet just won't want to bother with it. Flickr has some deficiencies but it's so much quicker to display picture, make comments.

Apologies for delay - I've been on holiday, and much needed I can assure you!
I'll put a couple of the pics into this thread as soon as I figure out how to do so and see if that generates any direct feedback.
Thanks for the positive feedback so far though - I really wasn't sure what I was going to get on the day!

I really like this photo for its composition, contrasting colour and depth of field. I probably took 10 shots of this car but this one stuck with me for some reason. Happy to hear any feedback on it!

Rob welcome back we thought we'd lost you .

Still no images though , I know it can be a pain but if you open your image in your gallery and right click the little mag glass in the upper right corner then left click copy link location , then come back to your thread hit edit and in the new box that pops up for you to write in there will be an icon button for inserting an image , click on that button and yet another little box will pop up left click inside the box and hit paste and OK .
And thats all there is to it .

There are lots of other posts on the site that will explain this a lot better than I have but good luck , you'll need it .

Clear concise explanation Mark, thanks Bit of a circuitous route though!
Now I know how to do that, I'll go for another!
Cheers

This is probably my favourite shot of the day. Panning is a tricky one for me to get right - this could prob do with more of a background blur but I was happy to capture this in-camera. It got some tweaking in photoshop to get the effect right but I'm happy with the outcome.
Again, any criticism gratefully received!

Rob the B & W conversion you've given this shot is spot on for me , it enhances the shot and adds to the classic feel of the image . I don't think it needs any more motion blur there's just enough to show the speed without loosing the detail of the water spray or the wheel hubs and the car is nice and sharp , exposure and composition are both good . I can see why this was your favourite shot of the day great job .

The Ferrari shot is good enough to grace the pages of any motor sports mag , beautiful .
