That Nikon D3000 does look like a cracking deal - as this is my first dipped toe into the waters of DSLRs I don't know much about the sensors but the Nikon has a CCD while the Canon has a CMOS sensor, what are the differences and will there be any perceivable difference between images taken on the CCD and CMOS sensors?

Dxo labs test all camera sensors and lenses on the market. They rate the d3000 and 1100d the same with 62 points. http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/Cameras/Compare-Camera-Sensors/Compare-cameras-side-by-side/%28appareil1%29/693|0/%28brand%29/Canon/%28appareil2%29/623|0/%28brand2%29/NikonThe canon performs slightly better at higher iso. I find the 1100d a bit plasticy. I would pop in a shop and have a feel of them both see what feels nicer, then walk back out and buy it online cos its cheaper! I think i would also prefer the nikons 2 yr warranty and £100 to buy a tidy tripod.

digigood are totally legit there fine look at the ebay feedback there just selling grey imports which is fine as long as you know if anything goes wrong you deal with the shop and not canon. I would prefer the proper warranty.

I think i agree with you Fonz re the proper warranty. I think it would be more comforting to know that it will be backed up by the manufacturer and not just the shop.

Now - is it likely that the Amazon deal on the Nikon D3000 will still be available after xmas? (was hoping to ask for some money towards it as presents)
