Post New to DSLR photography

http://www.photoradar.com/photos/147...owards-freedom

Hi everyone, Im not even sure that link will work but I sure hope it does.

I have only owned a DSLR for 2months now and Im trying my best to learn and capture as many interesting shots as I can. This image was my first attempt at long exposures and I was hoping for some tips on how to greater increase the impact this image could have.

I will more than appreciate any comments you have and if you do have any spare time I would love for you to check out some of my other images.

regards

jayhose

I've uploaded your picture to the thread, as you'll get a better response by including it. I know it can be a bit confusing how to do this first off, but don't worry you'll soon get the hang off it.

Its quite a nice picutre, nice movement and composition, shows good technique,
A nicer Sky would have been better, but still a lovely shot,

The highlights in the top left are blown, But using a set of ND Grads will help this, this would improve the forground too as its Bordering on under exposed but still looks Nice,

Still doing very well for just 2 months, i trust you arent new to photography? just DSLRS?

Thanks

Dan

Well done with this shot you really look like you have an eye for a good image .

One thing I would like to add to dan's comments , and that is the large rock in the foreground seems a little soft ( out of focus ) to rectify this you either need to use a smaller aperture ( larger number ) or you need to focus at the hyperfocal point . This is the focus point that will maximize the amount of sharpness in your image , you can get apps that will calculate this for you or you can just down load a chart for your particular kit .

Great work

Mark

Oh thanks heaps for the comments guys !
Yeh I was fully aware when I got home that I used have used a smaller aperture. I was a little rushed as it was my first time trying an extended exposure and it was 4.30am on my only day off work.
O hand I was surely hoping for a better sky but unfortunately I work in the mining industry in northern Australia and I always miss the perfect days for photography. I am hoping to get a little luckier in the near future.
Oh and I promise you I am new to photography but I do read a lot of magazines and have a new love for photography ( which is making my girlfriend jealous )

thanks again

Jay
