Can someone tell me if this technique is acheivable WITHOUT an off camera flash.

I cannot freeze the smoke as Dan has done due to this fact and i cannot use an ON camera flash as it just
burns the black background out.

I have tried lighting from all angles but obviously as i am not triggering an off camera flash the smoke will continue to move and i get a blur.

Any suggestions please.

Thanks

Jeff

Jeff, Matthew (Highlandscenics) has done it with a bridge camera. I'm sure he'll be able to help.

(Matthew, hope you read this.)

You'll probably need to switch to shutter priority or manual so you can control how long the shutter is open for. If you don't then it'll be trying to expose the image to make it bright, so will take a very long exposure - hence the blur. You could also up the ISO to increase the shutter speed.

Tell her you can't do it outside, the smoke will blow everywhere!!!
And then offer to do the washing up later

I'm thinking the living room or the bedroom. Hubby will be out later so he cant tell me off
