Free scanning software?

Can anyone suggest free (or low cost) software compatible with Windows 7 on a PC and a Canon 6150. The Canon application that came with the all-in-one 6150 has up to 600 dpi whereas on my previous Canonscan 4400 I could get 1200dp with its PhotoStudio 5.5. The results on the new m/c just don't seem as good as the old but the ArcSoft Photostudio 5.5 is not compatible with Windows 7.
Any suggestions most welcome,
Dagwood

I use Windows Fax and Scan that comes with Windows 7. The default resolution is 300dpi but I've just checked and you can create or edit a profile to go up to 1200 dpi. As far as free software you could have a look at Picasa from Google or GiMP which is open source.

Regards

Nick
