Framing and Copyrighting

Hey all,

I have two questions relating to processing images for display either online, or in print:

1) Do you add a solid coloured border to your images. If so, why?

2) Do you add copyright information (such as "Copyright Joe Bloggs 2011", or "Joe Bloggs Photography") to your images? again, if so, why?

I've seen different people do these, or not do them, and I'm just wondering why people do it, and if there is a particular good guideline for when to do either.

1. No I don't, but whatever floats your boat.
2. I presume you are referring to watermarking. Copyright is something that exists by right, you not have to claim it or state it, it's in the Exif data stream. Watermarking is done to stop image theft and different people have different ideas about how serious that is. I used to do it and now can't be bothered, if someone wants to pinch my images I'll take it as a compliment.

I put a little white border round my images that I post on the internet, it used to be black but now using white, for no other reason that I it gives a bit of identity to my shots, so all my shots look the same and I like a bit of a border in when they appear in forums.

I only watermark my American football photos because I know that all the players download them and post them all over Facebook. I don't watermark any of my other shots because it tends to ruin the photo & I'd prefer my pics to look their best when I'm displaying them to others.

I use a white border because it helps frame the shot, no matter what the background colour of the website it's displayed on.

As for copyright, I'm not a fan of splashing watermarks all over my image, but I do want to make it clear that people can't just copy the image. So I put a copyright on the border. Simples

I put a small (2 pixel) surround to my web pics as it provides a seperation from the webpage backdrop. Occasionally, will use white but it depends on the shot - very occasionally, colour but that's when I want to pick up on a colour I've got in the shot

Don't watermark but then what I consider to be a reasonable shot doesn't go into public webpages!

I do not watermark.

I also add a small border. I enter my images to camera club comps and they are projected. It look much better with a border to frame the shot.

on the matter of borders sume prople like borders on certian shots, and as Cris ( jet kit) said they don't want sume smarty paints useing or swiping their work or concepts
