Corfe Castle - I'm not convinced

Afternoon all

And so, I tried my hand at Corfe Castle the morning that I had a workshop. Had the time to do my own photos before meeting up with the participant.

When I started walking towards the hill, it started to rain. Typical was what I first thought. However, I carried on and hoped that the passing clouds would bring a nice sunrise.

OK. So why did I put this here instead of the landscape section? Because it took an age to try and life the image. The histogram says that the exposure is correct but the RAW is as flat as a pancake.

Did a little work in Lightroom to try and bring it up a little. Over to PS to add in some curves. Also used the colour balance to remove some of the redness. It was that red but I thought it looked too overpowering.

In the end, I'm still not convinced by it.

Great composition overcooked the sky i bit. This seems to be my answer to everyone but this would look good as a moody b+w.

Well, I did think about B&W. The sky has hardly been touched!

When I was LR, no saturation or vibrance was added. And I did take some reds out of the whole image.

Not sure what I can do about it.

i Really dont nwo about this one, its Nice... but im not a fan, i think the Blown Highlights on the Horizon really disract my eye too much, Nice sunrise but needs some mist and possible cool it down a bit, looks to much like late evening warm light, not the Cool ness of the Dawn, I had a Quick go in PS (hope you dont mind) and i cant think of anything, Even a b+w didnt look Great,

Sorry Jools, My opinion that is all, Most likely not Correct, but there it is

Right. This one is annoying me

I went back to the RAW file and took off the graduate filter from the sky. Instead, I used the curves tool in LR to darken down the highlights in the sky.

It's now much closer to the morning.

Dan. I know it's more like sunset but this was one of those "you had to be there" mornings. I've only seen one other such morning which was last February in Salisbury. It was like someone turned on a giant red lamp!

It was a complete git to edit! I was hoping that it was going to be simple but it proved quite a challenge.

The problem with the location is that the sun rises behind the hill. All the magic takes place before it gets above the hill. Once that is done it's not worth it. The only time it would be worth it is when there is mist, which I didn't have.

Still, I might go back again when I am in the UK in just over 4 weeks time.

Sky looks pretty good but the fore and mid ground look very odd (I'm guessing a pushed Fill Light or Shadows/Highlights) and I might be tempted to take back the bottom left OOF gorse

You're correct Markulous. Fill light has been added. It was one of the ways that I could bring it up from being dull.

It's not something I routinely do with my work and, as I said earlier, found it quite difficult to get what I wanted out of it.
