iPhone 4S new camera

Just in case anyone is thinking of getting the new iPhone 4S and wondered what the 8 meg camera is like, here are two shots for you to consider. (not looking for crit here, just demonstrating the camera).

The camera has an HDR option in which it takes 3 photos and merges them.

The following images are straight out of the camera so you can see what the iPhone 4S produces.

Inside shot (Central Arcade, Newcastle)

Outside shot (Tyne bridges)

You sure about the HDR taking three shots? On my 4G, it just takes a single shot and does tone mapping (with the option to keep a second non-HDR shot too)

Hi Matt

Just checked and from the Apple website it says:

"HDR. The best everything.
All in one shot.
Tap HDR and take a photo. iPhone 4S captures three photos from that one shot, each with a different exposure level. Then it layers the shots together to create a single photo that combines the best parts of each shot. The wide range of light is more accurate in an HDR photo. And iPhone saves both the original and the HDR photo in your Camera Roll. You can clearly see the difference."

Not too impressed so far, but it's early days I guess.

Ah - I thought you were saying that it saved all three exposures on the 4GS. So it's the same as the 4G then. I find it's not particularly good for HDR as we know it, but I often use it as it effectively acts as Dynamic Lighting, adjusting well for high contrast shots

I'll probably get one of these in December when my current contract is up, I love using the iPhone for photography and all the great little apps it has, will be nice having a better camera than the 3GS

I can't see them releasing an iPhone 5 so soon after the 4S, the first 4 versions have all been about a year apart except the 4S which was 16months after the 4,
