Views of Castle Howard

Here are a selection of images I took during a recent visit to Castle Howard in Yorkshire. I'm wondering whether I need to clean them up by removing elements like overhanging leaves or branches etc. What do you think?

Thanks,

I like the framing the branches give Castle Howard in the first photo, but I'd straighten up the building and remove the guy with the stroller from the middle of the shot.

I really like the ghostly feel of the second shot, but I'd clone out the butterfly from his crotch and the couple of flies on his leg and arm.

The third photograph would probably benefit from the leaves at the top and the taller tree on the right being cloned out. It could also do with a little straightening, also the photo seems a little dull/hazy so could probably do with a slight increase in saturation.

Only my opinion of course.

Regards

Nick

Great framing on shot 1 dude - don't touch the branches. In shot 3 they're a bit of a distraction to be honest.

Thanks guys!

Nick, the building is level, it's the grass in the foreground that is slightly off and creates the optical illusion. I agree about removing the flies and the butterfly as they add nothing to the shot. Likewise, I think the leaves have to go and the branch that juts out into the picture on the right above the bridge too. I have had three or four attempts at straightening the third shot and this is the best of the bunch. Each time I run my line over a different two points that should be level and click on the straighten, it seems to make the mauseleum lean oneway or the other, that or the bridge is then slanted. Just can't seem to win.

I've just had a look at the widest part of the roof line of the first photograph (in full size view), and it does appear that the left hand side is lower than the right hand side, but if you are happy with it, that's all that matters.

With the third shot, I wonder if you've got some barrel distortion, which is why you can't straighten both the bridge and the mausoleum. You could try to correct it with software. If you have Photoshop CS5 see http://help.adobe.com/en_US/photosho...4cc8e9c98-8000

Very nice.

What do you think about titling them? As I'd like to know who the statue is. I really like the way MattUK titles his photographs, perhaps he wouldn't mind you copying his technique.

I'm not sure who the the statue is of either, Nick. I suppose we could go and have a look at the Castle Howard website to see if it's listed.

I believe the statue is Bacchus, for those of you who are interested.
