Hahaha.

But I'm afraid you'll have to try harder than that to get us Nikon folk worked up - we just know we are superior

Doesn't really interest me. I'm into photography, not photography with a Nikon. Besides, I don't hold much faith in the ratings given for items in DC anyway, especially when they're out of five or ten. That's a 10 or 20% jump between one mark to the next.

I'm into photography rather than photography with a Nikon, but given so much of every mag is taken up with kit and manufacturer specific pages and articles, I'd rather take that element out of the equation and focus purely on what is relevant to me and my kit. I've made an investment in Nikon kit, I can't see any reason for changing unless Nikon go out of business, therefore a Nikon only magazine would be a damn sight more relevant to me than a general mag.

I'm not interested in Canon or Sony or Panasonic reviews, which I don't read and are therefore a waste of paper (and money) for me. I'm also fed up of seeing bias for or against manufactuers, which in a kit specific mag you're simply not going to get! The D7000's inexplicably poor review simply won't exist!

So yes, count me in, even if I am the only one! :P

I'd argue that there should be much less kit reviews in photography magazines as they will probably only interest a small section of the readership for one moment in time i.e. the time they are thinking about buying a new camera or lens etc.

For the rest of the time I'm not sure people want to read about the latest lens from a manufacturer they are never likely to buy from. General camera & lens reviews should go in a magazine specifically tailored to people who want to buy kit or in a supplement once or twice a year. That way there is more space for learning how to take pictures and getting inspiration which is why I buy photography magazines.

I agree with you Garry, but I'm guessing they can't justify a readership base that's going to buy one issue (at the time of buying), and then not come back until they want to buy again.

Their business model is probably largely based around subscriptions.

That aside, I'm also starting to feel as though the magazine content (after subscribing to two magazines for a year) is becoming quite repetitive. Each month seems to restate the basics a lot (as I guess it has to for such a general reader base). Not sure I'm going to continue subscribing to be honest.

I'm thinking of leaving it to the lives of 'what camera' magazine or 'what smartphone mag' etc, which must be based upon selling to people interested in buying rather than to a regular subscriber base.

I often wonder the same thing about mags and often think they must be in league together - how many mags last month had macro close-ups as their feature item with relevant photos on the front?

Yup, agreed. I was subscribed to 6 at one point, which truly became repetative! In the space of 3 months they'd basically covered all the same stuff. In the space of a year, I'd say an individual mag will be on repeat apart from a few tweaks.

I'm getting a bit board of DC too and again i don't have much faith in there test so its a lot of wasted space . I've found myself enjoying amateur photographer more lately. So i've subscribed to this for next year. They have far to many ads which annoys me but there are much more good articles to read with bio's and interviews. I also like the round up of new books websites and exhibitions page. Just generally a lot more to read even when its a third of the size. Its £27 more but you get one every week!

I used to buy Computer Shopper year ago because of the ads, then we didn't have the internet, so it was the only way to find out who was selling what and at what price.
