CANON 60d - Any Good?

I am looking to upgrade from my 40d to a 60d and wondered if any users of this camera have had any issues with it.

Quite happy with the camera i have but would like the articulating LCD screen along with
good image quality less noise at low ISO than 40D.better resolution, 18M and the fact that it is lighter.

If anyone can shed poss: or neg: light on this camera i would much appreciate it.

Thanks

Jeff

I had a 40D and now have a 7D, given that the 60D is based on the 7D I can pass comment also I have used a 60D and know 2 people with the 60D also.

The first thing I will say is the resolution is a real bonus it gives you a lot of room to manouvre when cropping and of course you can blow your photos up that bit more, the video is handy and the built in speed light controller is really handy. The whole camera feels more refined over the 40D and the articulated screen on the 60D works well.

One really nice option on the 60D is you can cap the maximum ISO it will use if you set ISO to automatic which I would of liked on the 7D.

The only negatives I had on the 60D over the 40D is that the build doesn't seem as good and it has some quite gimmicky features, however another feature which I wish the 7D had is the 60D has the ability to star rate images when you review them.

I would go in a camera shop and have a play

Dave, going in a couple of weeks when i get time off. Having said that i am not looking at video side of things so the 60d would basically be used for pictures only, obviously i will try out the video but i have an HD camera for that anyway.

Think the 7d as you said is a better build and i beleive it also uses CF cards and the 60d does not, am i correct?

It will all be down to what deal i can get on which camera as they both have their pros and cons and in the end i have a budget that i want to keep to.

Thanks for your input.

Hi Jeff,

I have a 60D and am very happy with it. I was going to get a 7D but then decided to save a bit on the body and invest in quality glass. Andy yes you are right about the cards the 60D takes SD cards.

I have heard that same thing. Problem is when a new bit of kit is launched you pay crazy prices for a while.

Jeff, my hubby (he is in super suck up mode for being a naughty lad) has just said he will buy me my upgrade for xmas and birthday combined and I need todecide between the 60D and the 7D. Did you make up your mind? I'm really struggling with the decision.

Bottom line is they are both great cameras and will be a big upgrade from what you have now, ultimately it comes down to budget the 7D though is heavier than the 60D so I think you need to ask yourself firstly do you and will you use the extra features on the 7D, can you justify the extra cost and ultimately which one feels better to you i.e. go and try both.

My dad has a 7D so I did look at his before buying my 60D. Like everything it comes down to budget else we would all have a 1D-X!

I took the view that I wanted to invest in some quality glass and not blow all my budget in the body.
