Astrophotography

Well, I've been putting it off for ages, but now I have eventually ordered my first proper telescope to start my astrophotography journey. Results will be quite mixed at first i have read so might be a while before I post any images on here.

Has anyone else dabbled in this malarky?

I was going to get a telescope to rig up my 5D MkII, all the advice I was given suggested I'd need to spend quite a bit on a decent tripod and star-following gizmo, more in fact than on the telescope itself.

I bought another camera & couldn't afford the telescope stuff, in the end. One day though.

I haven't but my dad did, I brought him a telescope which I had made then some how he made a camera by taking apart a cheap web cam hooked it all up and the results were phenominal really really impressive but he didn't do digital somehow he got films processed i'm not sure why that was i guess digital would be easier now, it was about 10 yrs ago. But if you have the time and patience it's amazing.

Well got my Sky-Watcher Explorer-130P SupaTrak AUTO Parabolic Newtonian Reflector telescope delivered today.

I've just seen Jupiter and some of it's satellites, and seen mountain ranges on the moon. Unbelievable.

Reflector telescopes give breathtaking images of the night sky, and better still if you can get the national grid to have an power outage in your local area.

I've had one for a number of years but don't use it often. Now all you need to do is master Messier and Herschel objects.

I also brought theStarry Night software which runs on your computer and shows when various planets and start will appear in your area for days, weeks, months and years ahead. It give you a good idea when certain features can be viewed. I've posted a link below.

Thank you for the link Oldboy.

I think there's an app on the iPhone too.

Just ordered the gizmo to attach the camera so should have something to show next week.

Hi Paul,

I can't wait to see the results. I've wanted a telescope for a while and can't decide what to go for.

I know it sounds a bit geeky, but did you see 'The Sky at Night' last week? You can still see it on the BBC iPlayer http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode...and_Andromeda/

Regards

Nick

Always watch the Sky At Night and Horizon. Have always loved science and check New Scientist, Nature, Science, Scientific American and Space.com on the web weekly.
