Hi Martin,

Back to your original question whether to buy from China.

I've only ever bought low value stuff from there, but they've been first class on price, delivery and quality. I'm still not sure that I'd like to part with 100's of my hard-earned, but if they are as good on high end stuff as they are at the other end of the market, they should be fine.

I've not heard of anyone counterfeiting cameras, so I'd guess that what's on offer is genuine. The big names like Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Fuji & Sony will all have worldwide warranties. Regional guarantees (like Europe) differ in certain respects, like it might be 2 years instead of one or there might be other bolt-on goodies but they'll never be less than the worldwide original.

Just two tips before you take the plunge. Check out the supplier on Google, it's not foolproof but you might find some referrals. Second, never, never, never pay by cash or postal order or Western Union. Always use PayPal or something you can track. I presume you've got the same sort of protection on your Colonial (lol) credit cards as we have in the Mother Country, so that might be a good option for payment.

Best of luck.

As well as repeating others postings about being wary of them only accepting Western Union they seem to only have two email addresses on the site which are generic Hotmail and Yeah addresses and finally, their feedback messages have been copied from another website.

Depends what you want it for, if you want to do sports then the fast FPS is handy, also it is a more solid build has more focus points etc. I think the extra cost is because it has 2 processors and the superior build.

If you go for straight feature comparison then there is not a lot in it, I have used the 7D and 60D and am with Markulous on this and given the choice now may well go for the 60D over the 7D. Having said that I love my 7D and have not experienced any noise issues and I will bump the ISO up.

Hi Nick, thanks for that. I only added the web site at the bottom as a "for example" this is one that is too good to be true. There are still quite a few others in Chine/Honk Kong that do accept Paypal whose prices are very good, especially on Ebay.
I always try to buy from Australian suppliers but when the margin starts to stretch it becomes very hard to stay loyal to local business.
Martin.

Camera prices are a bit cheaper in countries like china and india but not as cheap as the prices on that site i don't think. I might be wrong.
Hi thefonz, thanks for pointing that out. I hadn't been as far as the payment options because I'm not likely to be using that particular site. As I said to Nick_Gray this is one that would have to be too good to be true.

I wouldn't pay with anything other than Paypal. It's been a good move before when someone "forgot" to send the goods so I'm sticking with them.

The 60d v 7d issue is getting some interesting comments. Sounds like the ones who have the 7d like it but would be just as happy if they'd chosen the 60d. For the difference in cost and the fact that I'm still very much a novice, I'm definitely leaning towards the latter. I'll probably change my mind a few times before the big day arrives though.

Martin.

By which time Canon will have the 7D Mk II out and you'll have to start your research all over again - I'm joking of course, there's been no announcement of a 7D replacement.

As far as buying from China/Hong Kong and Ebay. I think if you stick with Paypal, as you suggested, and go for an Ebay top rated seller, you should be ok. You should remember that the prices listed on Ebay from traders in China and Hong Kong typically don't include local import duty nor VAT (or the equivalent in Oz - GST?) in the price of their listing. So if Australia Customs stop your parcel, when it arrives, you'll have to pay these before they will release the goods.

Having said that, winning a bid on a high priced auction from China, does wonders for the digestive track - while you wonder if your purchase will arrive.

Best of luck

Nick

I just had a quick look at Canon Australia site regarding warranty (http://www.canon.com.au/en-AU/Suppor...Warranty-Terms) see item 3:

3. This warranty is valid only for Products that are purchased new and unused
(a) in Australia or New Zealand; and
(b) sourced from Canon Australia Pty Ltd or Canon New Zealand Ltd (“Canon”).
The Customer must provide the original proof of purchase which demonstrate compliance with the above conditions to receive any services under this warranty.

So you'd probably have to return your purchase to China/HK for a warranty repair, or pay for a repair in Australia, if something did go wrong with your camera.

Regards

Nick

There are a number of Ebay sellers who operate out of Australia that buy the goods from China/Hong Kong. I think that'll get around the " purchased new and unused" problem. Not sure about the second problem though. They do offer Australian warranties.
Quote: Unless otherwise stated, Item comes with a 12 month Local Australian warranty and is covered against any manufacturer defects. In the event of a breakdown, the item will need to be returned to our office in Melbourne........ I don't know if it actually gets sent back to Canon though. I'll be contacting them first before committing to buy when the time comes. I haven't yet heard of any disgruntled bidders getting stung.
You don't have to wait to see if you're the highest bidder, most of them have a "but it now" option.
Cheers.

Your right it should of been out or announced by now although a 5D MKIII should be in the offing also, I think the Tsunami that hit Japan has delayed a lot of development so I would be very surprised if we here anything until about mid next year.

One thing I will say over my 7D is I do pefer the feel to it over the 60D but maybe that is just what I am used to.
