Who do you trust?

I'm slowly approaching the time when I can upgrade from my trusty Canon 450d. It's given me a good start but I'm now ready for the big step up to something better. I'm torn between the 60d and the 7d but I've heard a few bad reports of noise issues with the 7d......but that's another topic....
Back to the main reason for the thread........Looking to buy online there are some insane deals available. I'm buying from my home in Australia so China and Hong Kong are both vying for my business. I've already bought from them both and America with no problems but some of the sites in China are offering a 5d II for the equivalent of 845 pound (sorry I don't have a pound symbol on my keyboard) Most people would say if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. They're probably right most of the time but we all want to buy the very best camera we can afford so where do you all shop? Who do you trust for a good deal and good service to back it up? Would you risk you hard earned cash to someone in China? Has anyone already been stung?

I too am looking at upgrading either to a 60D or a7D. I found an amazing bargain too, thatlooked togood to be true. There's a work for these cameras and I just can't think of it at the moment. It basically means it is a genuine Canon but it isbought in from abroad and the guarantee will probably be of no use. Suppose you have to decide if thepriceis worth the ris of no guaranteeif it's broken or breaks...wish I could remember the name..lol

I think you are talking of the 'grey market'

As you say you have to take a chance when you buy equipment like this. I was lucky, I bought my old D80 from a Hong Kong source and it worked faultlessly for all the years I had it.

I also bought a Nikon compact camera in the US last year so I suppose I'm more than happy to take the risk with the warranty.

There's the two issues: the company and how good they are at supplying and then how good they are at supporting. I'd certainly recommend finding someone who's used this one - website looks good but I've seen good websites before - with companies that don't provide a service!

Well, I've never found fault with my 7D but then I very rarely wander from ISO100 - though I've achieved perfectly good quality shots @ ISO3200

Personally, I'd have got the 60D as the cost/benefit of the 7D isn't worth it for me but it wasn't around (OH has the 60D so I'm thoroughly familiar with it). Don't do portraits but do take wildlife - hence not the 5D!

It's very encouraging, I just checked on ebay and our" lowly" cameras are fetching good prices. They are great cameras to get you started and they hold their value much better than the compacts. I won't have to wait for as long as I thought. Just have to persuade she who must be obeyed that we can afford it.
I'm hoping to upgrade before Christmas. Still yet to decide which one to get though. Come on folks! Which is the best? Has anyone else had these "noise problem" I've heard about from the 7d? I was sold on it before I started researching on line.

I have heard a couple of times that the 7d isn't worth the extra money for what you get compared with the 60D. Im saving for a wedding (son's) so money is tighter than usual, not sure if I can afford one as yet.

Now there's a coincidence! I'm in the same position. My son gets married in April next year and I'm determined to have a better camera for the occasion. Good luck with yours, (wedding and purchase).
Martin.

I'm not sure of the noise issue - but I would ask: Is it a problem?

I'd personally always go for the best quality / features, and wouldn't care if the camera sounded like a tractor

By the way, check out this useful site: http://snapsort.com/compare/Canon_EO...s-Canon_EOS_7D

I would be very cautious of anyone asking for western union payment. You will not get your money back if it goes wrong and the transfers are very hard to trace, this is why criminals use it. The site does not mention any other payment service. And the price seems to low. Camera prices are a bit cheaper in countries like china and india but not as cheap as the prices on that site i don't think. I might be wrong.
