Smile coour cast in monochrome

Can anyboby help me out with a little printing problem I have?. I am using Photoshop CS3 for my images and for a while now I have been getting pretty good Black and White prints until lately. There was a conflict for a while between pc and printer and all the colours were out of sync with screen so I uninstalled the printer and re-installed it. Great, the colour has improved with what I see on screen except theB?W which now has a blue colour cast. I know that it's a simple task to sort out but i can't find the tools in CS3 to do it. Can anybody help.

I am getting on in years now {60+) so the memory can't hold on to things so readily now.

Many thanks, hope to hear from someone soon.

You might need to turn the colour management off on in the printers program. And let cs3 control the colours. But most home printers will have a cast when printing b&w. I just get them printed and dsl its cheaper and get better results.

Hi jtrd13 (or whatever your real name is) and welcome to the forum.

I don't know what printer you're using. I get the same problem with mine (all HP) unless I go into the advanced settings and select 'Greyscale'. This tells the printer to use the black cartridge only and I get great B&W prints.

colour cast in monochrome

thanks for the replies folks, I will go back into the settings and have another look around. The printer I use is the HP Photosmart 8250 and for most of the time the ersults have been really good with great colours and good black and white. I always use genuine HP inks and never compatables. Still can't get my old head around everything being ok one day and losing the edge the next without making any changes. Just lately even the colour has not looked so good.

Thanks again folks, I will keep trying.

Best wishes

It has always been a problem when using colour inks to produce mono prints without a cast. Don't forget there is no such thing as white ink and the white in mono prints relies on the shade of the paper. So if you want true white then make sure your paper is brilliant white. The grey tones to black are made up from the rest of the colours which will leave that dreaded magenta cast. This is the reason I have all my mono stuff printed from a company that uses an optical printer rather than inks. No chance of any unwanted colour cast that way. This is the company I use and they are brilliant: http://www.onevisionimaging.com/
