CHAT - Light Painting - Weekly Competition. 16th - 18th September

Weekly Competition. 16th - 18th September

Light Painting - Chat Thread

This week's competition is Light Painting. Light painting, also known as light drawing or light graffiti is a photographic technique in which exposures are made usually at night or in a darkened room by moving a hand-held light source or by moving the camera. In many cases the light source itself does not have to appear in the image. The term light painting also encompasses images lit from outside the frame with hand-held light sources.

Click here are some examples and inspiration of light Graffiti.

It's really great fun so give it a try.

No restrictions on editing, but don't fake the effect 8-)

Does painting with light count? Technically different.

Yes. As stated above "The term light painting also encompasses images lit from outside the frame with hand-held light sources." But to clarify, yes, if you are referring to using a flash light to light up and "paint light" on a non lit dark subject.

Yes, that is what I mean. I just want to make sure. I am sure someone else would wonder as well.

From my point of view, but I'm sure Paul will confirm if I'm right or not, this would not be on theme as you are not painting with the light, this is a light trail from car head lights which I think is different. Apologies if I'm wrong though.
