Clamency

Evening folkss

Here's an interior shot I did at Clamency. The masking is a little rough around the edges.

I'm interested in what people think when they see a shot like this.

Does it look fake?
Is it just about right?
Overcooked?

Compositionally, I keep wondering if the chairs are a barrier that stop you going further into the image.

I find the chairs, all of them, very distracting.

Hi Jools, sorry but I also find the chairs distracting. If the chairs weren't in the frame it would be a very nice picture..

Jools the scene looks spot on exposure wise very nice masking job but those dam chairs make it look like a storage room very distracting indeed .

Mark

PS

I must have a go at your masking technique as described in one of your other posts .

Thanks for that!

It seems it's not just me then with those chairs. I kept looking at them when I was processing it and, as said in the original post, thought they might stop people entering into the scene.

The masking technique is very easy when you get into it. I'm sure you'll agree it looks a whole lot more natural than regular HDR

Haha! Funny comment when you consider that HDR is designed to emulate nature, and it's in-camera-only shots that are unnatural

Don't have a problem with the chairs at all - too busy looking down the Chancel at the stained glass window!

I guess I might be tempted to darken the foreground chairs but TBH, like it as is as it's good to see a shot with what was there instead of a sanitised view

As hard as I try I can't see that those chairs add anything to the image , I would agree with you if they were in keeping with the surroundings but their not they look like they have been dumped there .
I'm not looking to clear the place for the sake of a clean view , if the foreground was full of stuff that looked like it should be there then fine but those chairs don't .
I also don't think that if it was clear it would be in any way sanitized but I think it would add an extra sense of grandeur to the image .

They probably have been! But don't you think it shows it's a working church and not kept clear for the postcard tourist?

What else should be there other than seating for the congregation?

You see grandeur without the chairs and I see realism and scale with the chairs!
I think we'll have to agree to disagree!
