I think that the OP had a bit of a strop. I don't think that he's listening though as he keeps going out and taking landscape pics instead of doing what has been suggested on here.

I'm borrowing someone else's camera (same make, different model) to see if there's a difference. I'll be doing the newspaper thing in the weekend. And some other tests.

If there's still no difference, then I'll be sending the lens to Sigma. If they can't do anything with it, then i'll be trading it in and consider getting the Canon 10-22mm

Not borrowing his camera any more because I know it won't make a difference. I now attach a pic of a newspaper (all I could do) http://www.flickr.com/photos/newmoon...n/photostream/

You need to turn the picture 90% so we can read it to see if it's ok.

It doesn't look too bad, but you're not doing yourself any favours by consistently ignoring our advice!
Re-take the picture of the newspaper. Position it in bright sunlight to get max contrast. Angle the paper at 45 degrees and MANUALLY focus on a specific point of the paper. Shoot at the lowest ISO and the largest aperture. When you view the finished result, do so at 100% or more and check where the maximum sharpness is. If it's on the spot you focused on, there's no more to be said. If, however, it is focusing in front or behind the spot you can adjust it yourself (check your camera manual for procedure) or, if it's a long way out, have Sigma do it for you.

I'll be trying the lens on a sharp edge since my dad doesn't see the point of taking a photo of something that doesn't have straight edges. I'll be sending an email to Sigma(UK) with a copy of the photo plus a landscape photo. And see what they say.

I'm not ignoring all of your advice. I can't do ANYTHING when my ulcers on my ankles hurt so much that I can't do anything. So it isn't actually my fault.

I used manual focus in P(rogram) mode.

I have to wonder what's going on. We look at example pictures, say what we think, offer advice. OP says he's sending the lens to Sigma. A few weeks later, we look at example pictures, say what we think, offer advice. OP says he's sending the lens to Sigma. Now, we look at an example, scratch our heads. OP removes all example pictures, says he's sending them to Sigma.

Can anyone enlighten me as to what's occuring?

By the time he gets around to sending it back to Sigma the warranty will have expired.
