It usually a corrupt file, harddisk or memory which causes this error. It could even be a virus or malware aswell. I have posted two sites below which should help.

You could even reinstall the corrupt files that are causing this problem. If you go into Event Viewer and check applications errors, it should show which files are having the problem and you just need to replace them with an uncorrupted version.

What's the reason that you're using Open As instead of Open?

It's most likely to be a PNG or GIF file which is causing this promlem, which is why he's using the open with method.

Not sure what a 'PND' file is (PNG perhaps? Or PSD?) Either way, you still wouldn't need to use "Open As..."

I'm wondering if, by going the "Open As" route, no File Type has been selected. If nothing else is chosen, the File Type is PSD, by default, and maybe the dialog is expecting just that (a PSD) but he's trying to open some other format.

Ah, I see. Are you making sure to choose "Camera RAW" and not "Photoshop RAW" in the drop-down menu on the Open As window?

cannot parse the file

hello matt

yes i am using the camera raw on the drop down menu.
I have found that a CR2 file from 500d converted to a jpeg will not open in camera raw,
but a CR4 file from my old 300d converted to a jpeg will open in camera raw, I have also found that my panasonic lumix camera files which are already jpeg`s will not open
in camera raw using the open as method.

Hi Ron,

Not sure what the problem is then. I suggest using this: http://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDetail.htm

And see if you can convert the CR2s into DNG and open the DNG in Adobe Camera RAW instead?
