RAW cropping problems

I'm running into problems with the cropping tool in Elements RAW editor.... Everytime I crop an image and click 'save as' the original RAW image in Elements Organiser gets cropped too - losing the rest of the image outside the newly edited cropped image. My understanding of RAW editor is that you will always have the original image intact in its entirity - am I wrong? Any help gratefully received!

The original image is never altered, all Elements is doing is appending the raw image with instructions either in the database or the xmp file so that it can be displayed with the setting you used on the raw image, the image itself is not altered.

For arguments sake without those instructions if you wished to return to the raw image later on and develop it the same way as before, without those instructions you would have to rely on memory do it all again exactly the same.

You can reset the raw image back to how it was in the raw developer but then you would lose all your raw edits.

With the image open in ACR click on the basic tab and choose "camera raw defaults" this will reset it to it's original state.

You will probably have to update the thumbnails in Organizer to show the reset thumbnails.
Select thumbnails in Organizer then Edit > Update Thumbnails or Ctrl+ Shift + U.

or delete the xmp file that holds the editing info

or just move the xmp file to a different folder than the raw image if you don't want to lose your edit completely
