Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Lens

Looking forward to seeing some real-life tests of this new Canon crop-sensor lens (EFL 24-136). Warehouse Express have in for pre-order at £699 - see here: WE

The MTF charts on canon's own US site suggest better performance than the 17-40L I'm currently using. If user's tests confirm this I'd be tempted to sell the 17-40 & get this - a very nice range & IS...

Great if you know you're going to stick with crop frame, the 17 - 40mm L will usually hold its value well so it won't cost a huge amount to upgrade, but a nearly 6x zoom may have quite a few compromises, so don't act in haste, and wait for a few unbiased tests first.

If its is anything like my 17-85mm it will be rather soft at the 17mm end and light fall off is bad in the corners against sky, as flake has said for the same sort of price go for the L lens.

Quite a price drop here: RGB Wonder if other retailers will follow?

Try the photozone site for an objective independant test. As I remember they thought it was pretty good
