Ive read that hitech filters give a nasty hue. I'd rather get the shot right first time.

The Lee is excellent - outstanding in fact, but £100 and there is a 6 month waiting list.... I understand from some of the users on here that Hitech have resolved most of the hue issues with a revised filter?

6 month waiting list??!! I have emailed Lee Filters directly to ask where to get.

If I cant find anything cheaper than the cheapest I have seen then i may just bite the bullet and go for the hitech filter.

The other interesting thing with the Lee Big Stopper is the price they are going for on eBay at the moment....! Scary stuff!

I got mines from Robert White

The new ones are not as bad. Most will give you a hue of some sort. Here is a recent review: http://blog.robertstrachan.com/archi...o-stop-review/

I have decided not to get the wide angle at the moment as money is a bit tight. So I'm going to buy a 67mm B&W 10 stop for my Canon 18-135. I will let you know how I get on!
You will not be able to use the 67mm B&W when you do eventually get the wide angle and you will be gutted. Buy a 77mm filter and buy a step up ring they for £6 and you can use it on both lenses

Seems there is a real backlog and waiting period for Lee, and I cant wait 6 months. So i'll be going the hitech pro stop route.

The eBay prices are just nuts but thats probably because of the high demand and low supply!

This is the reply I got directly from Lee Filters

Quote:
Thank you for your email.

We don’t supply directly, only through our network of dealers.

With regards to Big Stoppers, there is a large backorder situation with us and our dealers. We do not manufacture the filter here, the glass is imported in raw format and then made by us into a useable camera filter. Unfortunately the glass that has been received by us is not of the quality that our customers would expect from us and has been rejected after undergoing many of our QC test procedures. Because of the shortage of good quality glass we have built up a very large backlog of orders for the Big Stopper and we are not able to offer confirmed availability dates at this time.

We would recommend placing an order with our large dealer Robert White in Poole for BIG Stoppers, and once they have them available they will fulfil your order.
Guess that confirms my hitech options then!

I have the old 85mm version of the HiTech and the magenta cast from it is easily correctable in Adobe Camera RAW by using the White Balance Tool. My Lee Big Stopper has a blue cast in it so I have to do the same thing with that.

My hitech 100mm Pro Stop should be arriving today! Hopefully I get a chance to use it this weekend.
