Sigma 10mm f2.8 EX DC HSM Diagonal Fisheye

Hi Photo Radar!

This is my first post!

I am looking to get into extreme sports photography and thought a fish eye would be pretty useful. I think I want a diagonal fish eye so I dont get the image as a circle surrounded by a black frame.

Does anyone own or have used this lens?

Its for a Canon 60D

Cheers,

Dave

Welcome to the forum Dave!

I would say a sigma 10-20mm would be more useful. Great for landscapes and handy for quirky portraits and extreme sports. The whole fisheye for skate shots is well over done, i think in industry is moving away from that. You will still get that style of shot at 10mm on the 10-20mm when thats type of shot is called for. Plus you can add filters to the lens. I think the 10mm fisheye has a fixed hood on the end so you can't.

Thanks for the advice, I used to ride BMX 10 years ago and remember all the shots in magazines being taken with a fish eye. I can see how the 10-22 would be more useful. Im going to New York in May and a Lens like that would be very useful to get everything in shot.

I can't recommend the Tokina 11-16mm 2.8 enough Dave. I too have got a 60D and its fab. At 11mm you don't have to focus very much as most things are in focus.

Thanks, I'm not looking for the extreme fish eye effect but whats it like at 11mm? Can you create something that looks different from just being wide? If you know what I mean!

i didn't realise the tokina was such a fast lens f2.8 it seems great value. Jim have you bought from procamerashop before? Did you have to pay any import taxes?

I know what you mean. As with all wide lenses it depends how close you are to the subject.

These are with the lens at about 15cm
