Quick RAW viewing

I have started to shoot in RAW but find viewing them, to delete the poor ones, time consuming.
At the moment i am viewing them in Picas and zooming in to them takes an age.
Is there a programme where i can quickly view RAW images and delete what i don't want, preferably a free one, quickly?
I have Elements 6 and am toying with the idea of buying lightroom 3 and ditching Picas, what advise would you give me? Should i stick with Elements and Picas or Elements and Lightroom or...
Is Lightroom a good programme to have and if so why?
Thanks in advance
E.

Are you using windows? You can download codec from Microsoft for your camera so you can view them as you would a jpeg in windows photo gallery.

Only supports nikon and canon though i think.
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en...s.aspx?id=8802

Just google 'view raw files in windows' there are a few free codecs i noticed with more support for other cameras

If you're getting Lightroom you can delete almost immediately from there (but as you're using PSE6 I wonder if your computer's getting on a bit, in which case LR3 can be very, very slow - my 5-year-old PC, with XP, even though upgraded with more RAM and faster video, makes LR3 impossible to use properly).

However, good news.... the Panasonic FZ38 was a camera added to Adobe Camera Raw in version 5.6 - which can be used in Elements 6 (it's the one I use). So you should be able to download, view and delete your Raw images (with all their EXIF etc) directly from Organizer. Find ACR5.6 here - follow the instructions for installation.

Hi Geoffrey, my laptop can cope no problem and isn't an old one. I have been looking at lightroom and it looks good and i am so getting into RAW photography too now.
I do have the ACR5 add on but find it slow and frustrating.
I don't want anything fancy, just quick to view and able to delete what is rubbish quickly to save time.

Try faststone image viewer.

free and quick and you can edit within. I tend to use it to delete raw files prior to loading them in to Lightroom. I aslo have it open on one screen with Phtotoshop on the other & drag pics from it into Photoshop to edit.

Thanks, i have now downloaded it. What do you think of lightroom? I was thinking of investing in it but not sure if i should stick to Elements 6 like Geoffrey.
