Sigma 18-250 or Tamron 18-270?

I would like to get a general walkabout lens, but which is best. Reviews seem to be divided between the Sigma 18-250 and the Tamron 18-270. Any opinions would be appreciated.

Hi Togmeister

I don't know what body you have but I've got the Sigma 18-250 on a Nikon D90 and as a general purpose lens it's very good when you have very good lighting conditions , you do have the normal problems with softness at it's extremes but when the light isn't perfect you will have to except the fact that the A/F will hunt around a bit and it will miss it's fair share of focus locks .

Don't get me wrong you can get some very good shots in all conditions but if I new then what I know now I would have saved a bit longer and got the Nikon 18-200 .

I don't have any experience of the Tamron so I can't help you out on that one .

Mark

Judging by those, the Sigma is better - however I think the Tamron reviewed is the older non PZD lens, so I don't know if that makes much of a difference.
