Backlighting doesnt just mean silloute, a lot oif my landscapes are back lit and they aint silloiuteted, just havce to be carefull how you do it, Blend two exposures together, or use a fiull in flash to combat the shadows produced, plenty of ways of creating some very cool lighing techniques, if i get some time again this weekend ill have a go, sunday is now my only day off for 3 weeks,

Your midnight lighthouse is technically back lit. The actual lighthouse is, if you zoom on on that a bit, then it would certainly work.

Ahhh, that's what you get for living in Barry.

I live in the Rhymney Valley but at the moment I am down near Tenby. It's been lovely down here so far today but it's gone a bit dull lately although I can see more blue sky coming.

A few examples of back lighting where you can just get out in the garden or local walk and do it.

Even cloudy grey bad weather landscapes like you get in Wales can be backlit as well.

Hope that helps and of course silhouettes can be done as well, even rimlit portraits where the hair is backlit count as well.

Paul

Does it have to be natural light Paul? Or can we use flash or torches etc...

Any type of lighting you like .

Even if its raining there are possibilities like raindrops on a rotary dryer illuminated from behind, you just have to put your thinking caps on.
