Gold Hill

Evening all

Here is an image I dug up recently when going through all of my work. I found that it deserved more merit than I originally thought about.

It's one exposure. One image. No mixing of two exposures and not HDR. It was done with just grads, a polarizer and the meter reading was taken by a hand held spot meter.

What's your own thoughts on it?

Jools

The composition is really great Jools. Where's Gold Hill?

What I would say is that the image is a little flat and under exposed a tad - very easy to fix but a lovely image all the same.

Thanks for the comments.

Well, the exposure is as it should be, believe me! I spent a very long time studying the location and trying to get it at it's best. So much so, that Joe Cornish Galleries have printed one of my efforts of the place.

Gold Hill is in Shaftesbury, Dorset. Most famous for a certain Hovis advert.

Sorry Jimmy. It's late and been one of those days!

Seriously though, the exposure is where it should be. However, you are right in that it is slightly flat but that is due to the time of year and position of the sun.

It's been worked as much it should be, and that's actually quite a lot. My personal preference on images is for them to look as natural as possible and how I saw them.

It's a great image Jools, and thank you very much for sharing it. It's your photo and I've always said on here that the great thing about photography is that it's very subjective - no wrongs and rights etc. If it was my photo (which it isn't) I'd increase the exposure by 1/2 a stop and lighten the under exposed clips.

Thanks again for sharing the photo and I'm sure there are many more great photos to come.

It is a lovely almost iconic location for a photo but to my humble eyes it does look a bit dull and under exposed , but like you say it is your shot taken the way you want to take it .

Jools

Just had a look at your gallery and the shot that you have on there of the same scene I think is a much more pleasing one than the one you have posted for critique .

Lovely shot Jools. Only thing its missing is a delivery boy, delivering bread, wearing an apron and flat cap lol. Very pre-war England. I'm just wondering how this would look given the sepia treatment?

Thanks for that.

And by the way. This is what ended up in Joe Cornish Galleries. The difference between the two is like night & day.

Well, it's a different time of day so the sun is in the road. Shadows are present because the sun is higher.

I was with a friend when I got it and I said to him that it was destined for a calendar company. In the end, Joe got it.
