Elements 6 upgrade?

I have elements 6 and wondered about upgrading to 9.
Firstly is there any big difference between the two regarding what you can do with it and
Secondly instead of buying 9 can i upgrade and is it cheaper to do that?
and what about waiting for 10, apparently it's due out this September i hear?
Thanks
E.

There's not a HUGE difference from 6 to 9 (perhaps the convenience of having simple layer mask, although you've always been able to use Actions for this), and 'content-aware' correction.

Take a look at these comparisons. There's a trial version you can try for a month.

The biggest single difference with PSE9 is that it really does need a relatively powerful computer - if yours is over 4 years old it will struggle. Dual-Core, lots of Ram, Windows7 or the latest Mac OS, a good graphics card and monitor.

(I'm still with PSE6 - I love it!)

PSE10 will be out soon - best hang on if you're going to get a new one.

On a Mac the difference is not as noticeable for power. My same Mac ran 6 and now runs 9 (and Lightroom) at about the same speed. I have a mini that is from 2006.

Thanks, my laptop could handle it no problems and isn't old, about 2 years. I have been wanting to use some filters but don't have them , like Surface blur for example which is why i was wondering about upgrading.
I am told it will cost me more to buy the full elements 9/10 so would be cheaper to upgrade. I guess these would just be add ons to add to the elements 6 i have but not sure so looking for advice on this.

Not sure what you mean by "add ons to elements 6". The upgrade version just checks for an acceptable older version (check with Adobe if you can do a 6 to 9) installed.

Looks like i would have to buy the new version as there is no upgrades.add ons available.
I wanted some of the newer filters like surface blur and others so it seem expensive just to get those things.
Any suggestions or must i buy the new version?
Thanks
E.

A registered version of Elements (like PSE6) would have had invitations to upgrade to 7 or 8, and even to CS, but those offers would have stopped by now. 'Upgrade' in that case just means a reduced price, not a software upgrade in the old sense - it's a new program. So you'd have to buy a complete new version. I know it's not fun to spend money all the time but PSE9 is currently selling at under 55 pounds on Amazon UK..... I think it's excellent value. PSE10 will be around before Christmas (probably) so maybe hang on a little more.... though I'd expect the initial price to be up to 70 pounds.

PSE is an excellent value, even at full price.

CS is the full version, after version....I do not recall, they renamed them all CS, then CS1, CS2, etc up to the current CS5.
