Englands riots

What sort of individuals think they have the right to destroy a city, ruin other peoples lives, put the police resources and fire services under such pressure. What do they aim to achieve? It's costing the tax payer millions that could be better spent. Where will it end? I'm ashamed to be English at the moment.

And it's spreading. Does anyone actually know what it's all about?

It's just an opportunity for mindless fools to get involved in crime, violence and disorder. Of course they will always have an excuse and point the finger if blame at the police or the government, but many people are facing hard times but don't resort to this. It's a shame that the government has stretched the police to breaking point so they can't deal with this. But the public have a responsibility to behave - it's just that they choose not to.
Bad times.

The juditiory (spelled wrong...) system here is far too lenient in the UK. It's clearly not a deterant. Theres too much lack of respect, no community spirit and no family values amongst the criminal element in this country. The benefit system sucks and is too comfortable and people on benefit get very bored, they need something to do. If they can't find work, in order to receive benefits they should give something back to the communityand do voluntary work. It will give them self respect, keep them occupied and give them self worth. There...rant over.

I'm all for peaceful protesting. We can't just roll over and let the powers at be do what the like. This occasionally can get out of hand when police get heavy handed and passions are high.

This however is completely different. They have no real political agenda its just a load of thieving gits taking the opportunity to steal. I'm less worried about the shops that are burning but the poor people that live in flats above them! they have lost everything! It's unbelievable no one has been killed.

Sorry to have to say this, but this will only be brought under control if they bring in draconian methods. The Police will have to go in hard and break some heads. The Courts will have to deal out some real sentences and they will have to be served, no 'time off for good behaviour'.
There is no excuse for the criminal actions of these people. Some idiot on the radio yesterday was trying to excuse them by saying that they had no money and their kids were going to bed hungry - so, why did they steal the booze from Tesco and not the food? How does robbing a jewellers help? Does setting fire to a furniture store feed their families?
In America Looters get shot - we should do the same here!

I think the sentences handed down, once these people face justice, will not be mild.

I only hope their 'human rights' will not protect them from severe punishment!

Some sections of the population have been 'handled' with too much care, for fear of upsetting ... I'm not sure whom they were afraid of upsetting, but people have been getting away with murder.

Things, attitudes, have been changing slowly recently, this may just be the thing to accelerate this change.

Just Great, EXactly what the country Needed, i mean what better way to get out of a resession by causing hundreds of thousands of pounds damage, Do not understand Why its Spreading around the country, EVen Bristol, What the Hell is Going on,

The police are no help here now, There to worried about being sued, it would happen if they used reasonable force, Go in Hard like thye used to, people are only doing it as they now thye can get away with it, and if there injured they can then sue,

like robert, im all for peacefull protests, and i think the studnet Protests didnt go to far, as it was the futures being affected, so rightly we had a cause to protest, These are just mindless Violent Thugs, it Doesn matter about thier age, i now itl all be blamed on my Generation, and i cansee things being very hard for asnyone my age very soon,
Slightly worriied that my Girlfreind is at uni in london, Kensington to be Precise, but the residents of kensingtion arent ones to riot, lol

Hope we see an end to this soon,
Unofficial Reports say the underground is closed tomorrow,
