Different perspective on things!

Any worries about my car and how expensive it is going to be have suddenly been put into perspective.

My daughter, son-in-law and 18 month old son live in a 'nice' area of outer London. At the moment they are in their house, news helicopters overhead, all the roads around them closed as riots take place on the high street at the end of their road.

Local shops broken into and they tried to set fire to the local petrol station!

Oh my ... hope they're ok.

I'm pleased I don't live there, not just for the safety factor, but I would have to go down with the camera and shoot it. Would not be the best idea.

Yes, hope they are ok. It must be terrifying. The sooner it stops the better.

Watching the news this morning, a map of London showed the violent hotspots from all over the city looking more like a German bombing raid from 1940. Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, Nottingham, and Bristol adding further locations to what sounds like a WW2 air raid location report.

Hope all is ok with your daughter, son-in-law and grandson and that their property was not damaged by the mindless youth rampaging in the area. It's an excuse for them to have a bit of "fun" and possibly end up with a new iphone, xbox, set of trainers or cash from the till at the very possible and likely cost of taking someone's life.

I was about to start a thread about the riots.Im sorry for all those poor innocent individuals caught up in these dreadful acts. What sort of a country are we living in that a small (and getting larger) group of individuals think they have the right to ruin the lives of others, destroy the city, t put the police under such pressure and cost the government and the country millions of pounds that could have been spent on more important things.... I'm ashamed to be english.

I still aim to head for the UK next year, leaving Canada behind (but that's a personal thing - Canada's pretty good really). The only thing is.... I was planning to buy a flat and live a quiet retirement by the sea. Starting to wonder if I shouldn't just rent for a while and then head for Eastern Europe, where they're still getting used to some of the 'luxuries' that have spoiled our offspring for years.

The kids now seem to think that anybody who's operating a business, making a nearly-decent living or just holding down a job, is "one of the rich" who should be robbed or worse.... because little Justin feels 'entitled' to have all the luxuries of life without having to study at school or do some honest labour. Did you notice that many of the 'hoodies' were wearing 100-quid Nike trainers?
