Free camera bean bag!

My tripod does not drop to the floor like newer models which is a bummer. So i thought a bean bag would be a good idea and had a look at the prices. £25 - £30!! I wasn't going to pay that so thought i would make one. This morning making my breakfast there was the answer. My bag of asda smart price porridge oats! The bag is pretty strong but have reinforced it with some parcel tape. now i got myself a free camera bean(porridge) bag. I'm going to try it out tonight i'll let you know. Images below, you could do the same with rice but its heavier and the bags seem more compacted, you need a bit of room to mould it.

Hah, nice one. You could also slap some rice in an old sock and cable tie the end

That seems a much better solution than my mashed potatoe idea.

The rice bag is an old trick. In the Far East we used to carry a linen bag around and buy ½ kilo of rice to fill it with. When we were done and moving on, we'd give the rice to some needy family. Feel good all round.

Doubles as emergency food supply, if you get stranded/lost somewhere out of the way!

i have a couple of bean bags but the problem with them is if they come already filled they tend to be filled with polystyrene beads which colapse over time
my idea is to use the plastic pelets they use for injection moulding to refill them as i want a permanent solution and using foodstuff ( rice , porridge , black peas etc ) wouldn't be

not tried them yet but it's the best thing i can think of as a permanent filler

I know the Polystyrene pellets you are thinking about. As long as you don't fill the bag too much, they should work OK.
Can't eat 'em afterwards though.

Very recently i found a head rest for the bath while in the £1 shop. It was waterproof and filled with the lightweight styrofoam pellets i think.
I buy my dog clean up bags there, they are really nappy sacks but smell nice and at 100 for £1 you cannot grumble and you cannot get into trouble for not cleaning up after your dog, no excuse at that price.
Never though of buying one as a camera res t but when i spot them next time i will buy a couple, well they are cheap enough, lol.
