Hi Rog,

To my eyes, it looks like the focus is off. The colours look over saturated and you've got quite a bit of noise creeping into the image. Did you shoot in MF/AF? Also was ISO up quite high when shooting this?

Thats what thought, focus seems to on the ends of the leaves or whatever there called.

MF, but hand held which probably accounts for the focussing.

Didn't really add any saturation, this is almost as caught...

EXIF Data

Focal Length: 200.0 mm
Aperture: f/5.6
Shutter Speed: 1/100 sec.
ISO: 200

PS Colours look better on my monitor

Ah. Well, shooting macro/close focus shots outside isn't the easiest thing to do hand held. All it takes is either a bit of movement on your part or gust of wind and the focus can shift very quickly. I did try doing it the other week but the wind was so strong, it was a completely futile effort and just packed up my kit and went indoors.

It does look pretty noisey though for ISO 200. What camera body do you have Rog?

As for the over saturation, it could be my monitor is incorrectly calibrated, yours, or both lol. I really need to get me a Spyder 3 and soon!

Macro outdoors is not easy even with a tripod. I was shooting some lavender last week and although it was a fairly still day, every time I got everything set up the way I wanted the slightest breeze would come wafting across the field and my little sprig of lavender would disappear from the viewfinder. I tried setting up windbreaks, peering across the field for those little hints of zyphers coming my way, but out of 40-odd shots only 3 were sharp enough for what I wanted. None-the-less I'm still not very happy with the results and will go back later this week when hopefully the colours will be deeper.
