Missing JPEG Files

I have recently noticed after i have downloaded files from my SD card (i shoot both RAW and JPEG together) that for some of the files only the CR2 files are copied without the JPEGS.

I have re-copied the missing JPEG files to my hard drive only for it to say 'file name already exists, do you want to replace the existing files?'. (which seems to suggest that the JPEGS are there, but i can't see them??). After confirming that i do, the files are copied and i can see them in my folders. However, on returning to the folder at a later date the same JPEG files are not showing again! (CR2 files still present).

Any ideas why this might be happening?

Thanks

P

it sounds as if you might have the hide extensions for known file types active
with CR2 files being more or less unknown by the OS it will display their extension but JPG are a known format and will be hidden ( the extension not the file itself )
to see if the option is active double click on my computer and go to
tools - folder oprions - view and untick hide extensions for known file types
while your there you could tick show hidden files folder and drives so you see every file on your hard drive if you want

just a thought....

In addition to what Cosmicma has already mentioned:

I had the same problem when viewing my files with Digital Photo Professional (the software that comes with Canon cameras). There is a setting to only show CR2 files, which might have been accidentally turned off in your case. Open DPP, then go to Tools > Preferences, click on the View Settings tab, under 'RAW and JPEG' there is a checkbox where you can turn 'Display only CR2 images for CR2 and JPEG files of the same name' on or off.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Nick

Thanks for replies!!

However, it is only a few of the JPEGS which are missing (most of them are present), so can't be hiding a certain file type as you suggest!

Cheers

How odd. You've said that you download your files from your SD card. Do you get the same problem if you connect your camera with a USB cable and use the Canon EOS Utility software to download the photos?
