The videos are trully amazing,as a Nikon user I guess I will have to wait till Nikon announces something to rival the Canon 5d Mk11, then perhaps hire it for a holiday.
The bank is tight as it is so replaceing glass is out of the qestion.
One remaining question though just what is the recording time available, and on what cost of cards?
Most of my vids (shot on a panasonic) sorry forget which, are usually holiday locations so would expect them to be about thirty minutes in total (much more and the audience starts to snore)

You can use Nikon glass (and quite a few other brands) on the Canon 5D MKII with an adapter. Obviously you lose AF doing that but, the best results are achieved manually anyway. A lot of professionals use follow focus devices to give them creative control over the lens, as well as glidecams and rail systems.

If memory serves it shoots for 29mins 59 seconds. Depending on the size of your memory card and the resolution you shoot at, you may not be able to shoot continuously for that long, as you'll fill the card up before that happens.

It would be nice to think that the reason why we haven't seen or heard much about the D800, D4, etc. yet, is that Nikon have completely overhauled their video mode on it. Personally, I think it would be a mistake for them not to have done so. The Canon has achieved pretty much cult status and so its successor will be virtually guaranteed a warm reception. If Nikon doesn't have something to rival the 5D MKII/MKIII I think they'll probably see a lot of togs jumping ship. They better get the lead out!

recording time sounds as it would be enough.
Guess I will wait till Nikon bring out the D800,D4 or what ever it will be.
Obviously I could use Nikon glass with an adaptor but it is also all the other Nikon dedicated gear that goes with it speedlite etc etc guess i will have to just sit back and wait for Nikon to catch up.
In the mean time a friend and I are of to the lakes this weekend so he has offered to let me try out his 5d 11 with his large range of lenses, mics etc , lets just hope the weather picks up.
But back to my original train of thought i wonder if Nikon could offer there newies with and without video I wonder what the price difference could be?

The 5D MkII can record up to 29mins & 59sec OR 4GB of memory whichever comes first. On a 4GB card in highest quality mode you could get 12mins, on a 16GB card you'd get 48 mins in total but 12mins (4GB) would be your longest. On a lower video quality setting you could get a longer take up to the 30min limit then you'd have to start another take.

at least that's how I read it.
