Hi Ian,
Sorry. I didn't mean 'Never shoot into the sun', just be aware of what happens when you do. The difficulty is that you can't always see the outcome when you look through the viewfinder. Get into the habit of checking the image immediately after you've taken it. Often the flaws will stand out and you can re-take from a slightly different angle to rectify.

Refreshing to see somebody else who recommends "checking the image immediately after you've taken it". This practice was really frowned on - and you still hear criticism of it (as "chimping") - mainly, I suspect, from film users who moved on to digital and feeling a bit snobbish and superior about it. But by not doing it they're missing one of the greatest advantages of digital - if you don't like what you've just taken, or think you can do better, you take it again.

Hi Geoff,
I'm old-school. Not quite as far back as glass plates, but trained with 4"x5" monorail cameras (Wanna know about Scheimpflug Rotation anyone?). However, I'm neither proud nor stuck in the past and quite happy to see the back of many of the restrictions of the days of film. I'll use any trick, dodge, wheeze or cheat to get me a better pic. That's why I love the digital age.
