This was taken using the sports setting. Hope you don't mind me posting this one. As you see the action is quite frozen, and I do still goback to sports setting if its a shot Im scared to miss on manual.

Thanks for your thoughts Karen it's always nice to get feed back on my work , and it means a lot to me to be able to learn from more experienced people like your self .

DigiDiva You are more than welcome to post shots like that when ever you want , just one question what is that bird and where on earth are you to get it to come that close to you .

Its some kind of a finch, not sure which one. We visited a place called Keilder, its a man made reservoir and I remember when I was a child, the valley and village being flooded to make it. When the water is low, it's said you can see the church steeple poking out of the water. You can see the old road disappearing into the water.

We were having sandwiches in the car park and the birds (there were dozens of them) started to come closer and one brave guy tried to steal some out our hands. So my husband held some out and I took the shot.

In that case it could be a Chaffinch but the colours look too strong.

I would just like to say a big thank you to Digital Camera Magazine for not only reading my question about photographing birds in flight but printing their response in this month addition of the magazine ( 114 ) in the 10 things to try section , now that's what I call personal service .

Thank you all very much for your input on my post , this is my latest attempt but until I splash the cash on a longer fast lens I may of pushed my sigma 105 macro to its limits for this type of work

Not bad for a macro lens and shows great panning.
