Why my computer getting restart suddenly?

I have Intel core 2 duo processor, Intel Dg31pr motherboard & 500 watts power supply. While working on the computer sometimes a blue screen appears telling technical problem and something else written on it and after it within a second the computer is restarted. I am not able to see anything and know what the problem is. Please tell me wants the problem? Do you think I must upgrade my power supply unit?

Hi Grundy,
What operating system are you using? XP, Win 7 etc.?
Also, have you installed any software recently (just prior to the first failure?)

Arghhhh! The dreaded blue screen crash. You might find what you are looking for here: http://www.windows7files.com/compati...h-on-windows-7

Or you could download CCleaner free and use the Registry cleaner part. If not a corrupt file, probably loads of old files and cookies needing a clear out. Use CCleaner to clear cookies at least once a month. I couldn't live without it. http://www.piriform.com/ If none of these things then you might have to reinstall your OS which is a real pain.

it's very often caused by conflicting software problems with your device drivers, maybe one has been corrupted.

In some BSODs (Blue Screen of Death) it's possible to copy down the error which usually has a long list of numbers with lots of zeros in it. You can then Google the error message to find out what the problem might be, if the BSOD disappears very quickly you cant do that though you might be able to see what type of error message it is, for instance 'divide by zero', 'memory' or whatever.

Either way, the first thing I'd look at is my soundcard & video drivers & try reloading them or downloading the latest drivers for them.

Have you recently added any hardware or updated any hardware to your computer, if so, look at those drivers first & maybe unconnect them from the PC to see if this stops the blue screens.

BSODs also happen with failing components, quite common when memory chips start to fail. If you can't find any problems with your device drivers, try taking out one of the memory chips & replace them one by one to see if you still get BSODs

ther eis a setting in the control panel that stops the system restarting straight away and keeps the error on screen so you can copy it down.

Look in your event logs. Click on Start, Control Panel, Administration Tools and click on Event Viewer on the righthand side. You might have to check each one in turn to find the error and it should be marked critical. Double click on it and it should show you all the details of what caused the problem. You can then search Microsofts Knowledge Base for a fix.

It could be a DLL file causing the problems.

not sure if you noticed, but this is a thread from November, the original poster joined on that day, posted this & hasn;t been back to the site since, so any other replies would be superfluous
