Upload the 'Original' high-res image?

Hi y'all. :-)

I received an email from the DPOTY team, asking for the "original, high-res image" of my photo. This is what it says: " In order to qualify for the next stage of judging you will need to upload the original, high-resolution version of your photo using the link on your photo page. "

I see on the FAQ page the following statement:"How much image editing do you allow?... Where appropriate, original files may be requested if a photograph reaches the shortlist of photographs selected by the independent panel of judges."

Forgive me for not understanding, but are they asking me for the original, unedited versions of my photos? Or am I just reading too much into this? ( Which is very possible. I have a tendency to do that, lol. )

I can understand them wanting to see my "originals", but, ummm, I can't imagine having to put them on my photo page. :-/

Any help regarding this would be most appreciated.

I always thought the 'original files' mentioned in the FAQ were those direct from camera to ensure you owned the image and a way to see how much post editing had been done. And the high resolution original being the processed edited image, printable .tiff .jpg? (as the file type is not specifically mentioned )from which you minimised a copy (reducing file size) towards initial enty into your Poty portfolio - So I can understand your query - As for the link on photo page for uploading higher resolution files; I'm confused and hope someone else has the answer just in case I'm lucky enough to get a similar email.

So, if I'm reading you correctly, you think I should upload the 'edited' version? And that if they wanted the 'original' ( lol ) original, they'd send a request for the 'original file'? ;-)

LOL... this would be a lot less confusing if they simply used the words 'edited' and 'unedited'. ;-)

But I'm inclined to agree with you. I think I should upload the edited version. ( crosses fingers! )

The judges are definitely asking for the high resolution image including any edits you may have done (as compared to the file right out of the camera). The word "original" here is really synonymous with your master file from which you created the smaller version for the web.

Does that make sense?

Whew! It's a load off knowing both of you think that's what they want.... I guess with it being sent to me prior to the comp deadline, I was thinking maybe I'm misunderstanding.

I've also received an email asking for the original to an image to be uploaded, but seeing as the image in question is part of the Digital Vision category it's pretty clear they just want the master image at its highest resolution, edits and all.

Considering I only entered two days prior to closing, I was not expecting to get anywhere really, it was just on a whim, but pretty excited. No idea how many make it through, but good luck to everyone!

But that's precisely it. My images are in the digital vision category, so I thought they possibly wanted to see how much editing was done.... But now that I think of it, it wouldn't make sense for them to make such a request at this stage of the game. Sure, when they're down to the final few, they may ask to see the 'original' original, but definately not now...

I guess I just got a bit excited and wasn't thinking very clearly, lol.

Happy to have found this forum chat having just spent the evening in a quandry about the same thing myself.

I only adjusted the contrast, colour levels and sharpness, but the edited version is eye-catching where as the original is blander.

I emailed some photographers whose judgement I value. They agreed that the edited version is the one that caught the judges eye, thats the one they want to see.
