I was under the impression that NT were changing their policy on photography of their sites.

As a member of the Trust I've never had a problem taking photos for my own private use. Indoors or out.

Extract from the NTs web page http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main...qs-visitor.htm

"Amateur photography (including filming) without flash is now permitted in historic interiors at the Property Manager’s discretion. As with outdoor photography, any photographs taken are strictly for private use, and enquiries about selling or publishing photographs should be directed to photo.library@nationaltrust.org.uk. However, visitors must be aware that at some places, there may be copyright issues, and further permissions may be required in respect of collections not owned by us. In these situations the Property Manager decision as to if photography is allowed is final"

Very quick reply from them,....

Dear Daniel,

With regards to the below, we can allow you to take images of NT properties for the commercial application to which you refer (selling prints via your website) where an entrance fee is not charged, such as coastal areas and woodlands providing that the images do not contain models or products. If you need to use the images in any other manner please contact me. If you do wish to undertake commercial photography at properties where there is an entrance charge please let me know and I will inform you as how to seek permission.

If you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact me

so thats that sorted then.

Dan

The line hssutton quoted from the NT "any photographs taken are strictly for private use, and enquiries about selling or publishing photographs should be directed to....." needs to be thought out a little more.

By those words, you couldn't show it at your camera club, either for competition or exhibition, or even 'publish' it anywhere online, like Flickr, Picasa, or here, without asking permission.
