Ready to upgrade

I'm looking at upgrading from my basic Canon 1000D hopefully as a christmas girft off Hubby and he needs time to save up! I have looked at a few of the Canon models and not sure what will suit me best. The 1000D is, as I said, basic entry level stuff, and those that know me from here, will probably understand why I'm now ready to upgrade. I'm not a pro (obviously...lol) so I'm not going to need anything as good as they use but want something decent. Any canon users have any suggestions?

Just read the thread 60D or 7D and this seems to be my dilemma, these are the only ones in my price range and because of my dodgy knees, the 60Dseems to have the edge because of the screen. What do you guys think?

I would go 7D myself. Depending on your budget and if they are close in price. The 7D is closer to a pro model. I see the screen on the 60D being useful at times, but to myself I am never in a situation where it would help.

Keep reading the other thread.

Go to a retailer and handle the goods. I had a look through the viewfinder of a 7D on Friday, what a difference to my 550D!

I'm not sure I understand the reasoning why you need a new camera (if anyone needs a reason for anything new!), but have you really exhausted the potential of your 1000D?
The 7D is a great camera, but will you use half the advanced settings that are programmable on that body?

You recently made a post saying that you can finally afford the 50mm F1.8 lens. That is a great investment, but compared to the price of a new body is chicken feed. Why not persuade your husband to buy you some more decent lenses now, then hit him for a new camera at xmas!

Hi Chris,I am hoping to upgrade to the 60D but not until next year. Two reasons why,one I have a bad back so the articulated screen ticks the box and two I can't afford the 7D.The 60D has a lot of the technology of the 7D and would suit my needs fine.
By the way,you will love the nifty fifty,it will give you incredibly sharp shots when used to its potential.
Happy snappin'!

Interesting one .My partner uses a 1000d and I have a 50 d.When she uses my better quality lenses then images are not that far apart.

I love the rugged solidity of the 50 d .I use spot metering .The rear screen is far better. The ability to shoot at 6.5 frames a second and do tighter cropping is great.

I would not discount a second hand body in your position.

As said above though I really would invest in lenses ,they make the main difference in my opinion.

Id say the 7D i think its more a better piece of kit, and i dont think youd out grow that camera, itl last for a few years, Will the 60D? up to you, but i prefer to upgrade as far as i can go, i think it works better that way round.... get to a shop and see for your self though.. pick your favourite

I have thought of a seconnd hand one, but I worry I would be buying someone eslses problems. And I agree about the lenses. Maybe its a pride thing more than anything, being seen with a 1000D isn't as great as being seen with a better model.

Envy is a bad sin.
