Hi Dan,

Nice DOF to include Zippy's head and the unfortunate toy duck in sharp focus.
Without seeing the original I can't compare the before and after versions of this image (if indeed the original was shot in colour), but this image works well in monotone.

There seems to be a fad at the moment to give images the B & W treatment (and over done HDR too) and not all of them work, but this one does as does your Wye bridge image. I would like to see the colour version of your glocester docks image though.

Well done on some very pleasing images.

Rick.

Rick,

Thanks for the comment, I'll have to dig the original docks image out, It's tucked away on the hard drive somewhere!!!

It a nice image of a contented looking mut. The B&W conversion looks good to showing the texture of the fur nicely.

One thing I would try is dodging the highlights selctively of the in focus area,

Levels could do with correcting, I'd be tempted to burn back the bright(ish) patch on the RHS and leave out the vignette but I think you've a nice shot. Poor chicken!

Nice shot. You look to have caught his character very well. I would be tempted to get rid of the stuffed toy next time though as it is obscuring part of his face.

Black and white conversions to a lesser extent that HDRI can divide opinions. Personally I like the shot a lot Dan and the B&W works very well. If it was my shot, I'd tone map the *ss off it to bring out a larger tonal range, but hey - that's not to everyone's taste. Nice work.
