Today I watched some Kingfishers

I went to an RSPB Reserve today. They have some active Kingfishers who currently feeding their young prior to fledging some time next week.

They have a hide but even with a 600mm with a 1.4 & a 2x converters, these shots are quite heavily cropped.

The first time I've ever gotten a shot of a Kingfisher, in fact I even got a pair.

1. Flying towards the nest with a fish for the young

2. Washing itself clean after feeding its young

3. Washing itself again. It did this 3 or 4 times every time it fed the young

4. Emerging from a quick wash

5. Waiting for a chance to take the feed to the nest

6. The male on the left passed a fish to the female who then took it to the young

7. The pair are also investigating new nesting holes in the bank for the next brood, this was a recce mission

Very nice great shots, some really good action shots there too... i love watching kingfishers in the wild. have never got any pictures though.. a place i used to fish always had them.... and you wouldnt need a 600mm lens, this was back when i wasnt into photograpgy much and only had a kit lens.. its a special sight getting one land on your rod tips..

Cracking series of shots.

Haven't seen our Kingfishers since last April. Me thinks the bad weather in December killed them off.

Thanks guys.

Was a really nice experience being able to sit in a hide for 3 hours watching them. Will definitely go again.

Stunning shots there Cathus. How you did that I haven't a clue, those Kingfishers move so fast. You must have lightning reactions.

If you think they are fast try Swifts and Swallows.
