has anyone encountered this problem. Whilst away on holiday I noticed that photos had 'jumped' out of order from when I had taken them so that a photo appeared (on the memory card) within a group of photos I'd taken a couple of days earlier. This happened on more than one occasion and on two different memory cards. Anyone got any ideas?

What camera is it?

It could be that the numbering system has been changed and if there is a space between to pictures (perhaps one has been deleted) it's filling in that space. Have a look at an example and see what the file names are

I think the most likely cause is the user removing the battery to recharge and the camera is defaulting to the first folder. The camera uses a numbering system upto 9,999 and when it reaches that it creates a new folder and starts again at 1. If you create folders on your camera for different dates and pictures then the default option doesn't reach 9,999 so the camera thinks it's still using the first folder.

It's a D.90. I did delete pictures as I went along but still not sure why pictures that have the right date etc have been given the wrong file no. in the wrong place in the sequence?!?

Would have taken the battery out to recharge on occasions but almost certainluy have not had camers (it's a D.90) long enough to get to 9,999 images. Also it's only the odd picture jumping out of sequence!?!
