Self Portrait 1

Light from wind, hand-held camera, timer release. Believe it or not, this was first shot of 20.
All comments appreciated.

Excellent shot! Beautifully lit, nicely composed, but you could have gone in closer because there is a large gap above your head. Apart from that, you could have put this shot straight into either the black and white or people section of the forum, it's that good!

Great shot!

It might be worth erasing the few stray bits of light hitting the left side of your face, highlighting details that are so small they cause a slight distraction.

I see what Matt UK is saying, but I think those stray bits have just highlighted the depth of your face, I would leave them, but thats just me. VERY striking image, love it

Nicely exposed and processed, only comment would be to of angled the face a little more towards camera to get a glimpse of the far eye. Turning slightly more towards camera would have removed the stray light on the side of the face that Matt mentioned.

One other thing that could change the image would be to extend the canvas on the left hand side to make the picture square or slightly landscape. This will balance the picture and composition a bit more perhaps - worth a try.

Extending the background in front of my face would put the window in the frame...I don't want that. I do appreciate the comments and suggestions. Thanks so much.

Obviously you are pleased with the result, and quite rightly so. Portraiture is a difficult genre, and self portraiture more so.

We can all make comments as to what we would have or wouldn't have done, and they are our take on the picture that you have presented to us. Whether those comments would improve the picture is also open to comment themselves, and it's your decision whether to implement them.
Personally I would leave well alone, it's a good self portrait.
