Catbells - Lake District

Hi all

During another wet camping trip at Keswick, took this of Catbells.


Any comments always appreciated, good or bad

I like the way the sunlight is catching the trees and the side of the mountain, but I look at the scene and feels it just needs something either on the lake, or walking along the shoreline or flying in the sky.

I just wonder whether if you upped the contrast a little and then converted it to black and white whether you could make it look a bit moodier. You've captured some nice detail in the clouds that might work well in monotone.

Try removing the lake area from the picture all together and concentrate in pulling the colour and detail in the hills behind - try and pull out the purples and orange in the hills to contrast with the lush green in the foreground. (use layer masks to help)

Cut off the very right edge as well (just before the incline) to help balance the composition a bit.

Tried B&W but it didn't look good, either that or it was the way I tried. Never really been good at B&W conversions.

Did you do the masking?

While the orange in the near mountain looks good, the tree's seem to have taken on a bit more yellow as well. Also, the nice white in the clouds seems to have gone.

Nice shot, but it brought back memories of climbing it with a 60 mph wind blowing. I got half way up and chickened out, considering the downward trek better than continuing upward. Magnificent views though.

Masking?? Um, seems not Still learning PS and what I thought were masks, were adjustments which of couse altered the whole image.
I'm reading about masks at the minute and will have another play around.

Wow, 60 mph, never been up in those sort of conditions, usually when it starts to blow we stick to the ground routes or go shopping if the wife has her way.
