Thanks Chris and everyone else for the help.

Call me pig-headed, but I went for the 3.5 and it arrived today - initial impressions are that it's a massive improvement over my Tamron - and considering I'm looking to sell that (it's on ebay now if anyone's interested!), the upgrade will only cost me just over £100 anyway.

The only downside seems to be that the flower hood isn't the same material as my Sigma 17-70, it's just normal plastic instead of the lovely matte black finish. A small issue though, as the lens seems so much sharper on the whole.

Thanks again for the advice

For those interested (and I know it's not a direct comparison):

Tamron 10-24:

Sigma 10-20:

Who stuck that window there? lol.

Yes, it does seem a lot sharper Matt.

With regard to the petal hood, this is the only issue that I have with the Sigma's. The lens hoods are awful fits.

Oh no, the two I have are a fine fit. It's just that the 17-70 has a really nice matte graphite finish which really lifts it above the usual cheap charcoal plastic look. It's a minor point really

I'm really preferring the Sigmas over the equivalent nikon or tamrons though...
